Chemicals States - Tamil Nadu Acid makers against export curbs Our Bureau Chennai, July 14 The All India Acid Manufacturers Association has said that if the Government imposes any export restrictions on acids it will have a serious impact on the industry. Responding to a lobby from the fertiliser bodies that suggested a ban on export of sulphuric and phosphoric acids, the association said, in view of uncertain fertiliser production levels acid manufacturers here need to tie up with some overseas customers on a long-term basis as an alternative market. India produces 10 million tonnes of sulphuric acid which is consumed in the production of fertilisers, detergents and other chemical-based industries. While acid production in India is poised to increase further with the expansion plans of various manufacturers, production of fertilizers has fallen significantly over the past few years. In view of this, acid manufacturers are forced to find alternative markets to sustain the business viability and to avoid plant closure, said Mr V. Krishnan, Secretary of the association.
