Print advertising by education sector up 14%

Chennai, July 14 Print advertising of the education sector grew by 14 per cent during January-May 2008 as compared with the same period in 2007.

According to a study by AdEx, educational institutions garnered a 67 per cent share of the overall education sector ad pie in print during the first five months of the current calendar year, followed by coaching centres/competitive exams and computer education with 15 per cent and 10 per cent share respectively.

Tamil Nadu topped in the print advertising of the education sector during this period. It was followed by Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Further, the top five States accounted for 57 per cent of the overall education sector advertising in print.

According to the study, Planman Consultant India Pvt Ltd, the Vellore Institute of Technology and SRM University were the top three key advertisers from the education sector in print during the period.Among the sub-categories of the education sector, the maximum advertising growth of 46 per cent was registered under computer education followed by BPOs/call centres (40 per cent) and Vocational Training Institutes (32 per cent share) respectively.

The non-metro newspapers accounted for 63 per cent share of print advertising of the sector followed by the metro and mini metro newspapers with 24 per cent and 13 per cent share respectively.

Print advertising by the sector grew by 12 per cent during 2007 as compared to 2006.

During 2007 and 2006, advertising of the education sector reached a high around the middle of the year (Q2 & Q3), coinciding with the time when schools and colleges reopen.

Since 2004, there has been a steady increase in the number of advertisers of the education sector in print, the study said.
