New Delhi, July 16
Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) and its consortium have struck more gas in its shallow water block of Krishna Godavari Basin.
Speaking to Business Line, the Director-General, Directorate General of Hydrocarbon (DGH), Mr V.K. Sibal said, “it is a new find.”
“It is still early to put an estimate to the reserves, however, it is a good reservoir,” he said. The discovery has been made in KG-22 well in the block KG-OSN-2001/3. This is the fifth find in the block, Mr M.Y. Farooqui, General Manager, GSPC, said.
During initial testing gas flowed at the rate of 27.3 million cubic feet a day. GSPC had won the block in the third round of oil and gas licensing auctions (New Exploration Licensing Policy –III).
This discovery is different from GSPC’s discovery of 2005 in the KG Basin. The company has drilled 10 exploratory wells in the block till date of which discovery has been made in five wells: KG-8, KG-15, KG-16, KG-17 and now KG-22.
While, testing in KG-31 well is to start shortly and the company is expecting more discoveries. KG-28 was an appraisal well in the block, he added.
