Prahalad sets great store by market economy

CII has adopted the professor’s vision as a national agenda for 2022.

Bangalore, July 16

A market-driven economy is management guru Prof C.K. Prahalad’s solution to a clean, corruption-free India.

Allow the market to lead the economy and it can lead to transparency and good governance, Prof Prahalad said at a news conference organised by CII Karnataka chapter here on Wednesday.

“Does anybody pay a bribe to buy cell phones today?” he asked, but admitted that it was not easy to completely rid the country of corruption.

The Paul and Ruth McCracken Distinguished University Professor, Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, was outlining his agenda for ‘India@75’ — by the year 2022.

CII has adopted Prof Prahalad’s vision — based on market-based solutions, social equity, rule of law, scale, price performance levels and ecological sustainability — as a national agenda for 2022.

India, the professor said, needs models that can help it move at a lightning speed; it needs moral leadership and technological vitality. The youth hold the key to making India an economic leader.

Vision ambassadors

CII has identified youth in the age band of 25-40 years as its vision ambassadors and will work with them at the State and national levels through its youth arm, Young Indians.

Earlier CII organised meetings between Prof. Prahalad and Karnataka government officials, academicians, policy makers, MPs, MLAs, urban experts, NGOs and students to discuss the 2022 agenda.
