Rajiv Arogya Sri phase II to be launched today

Over 90% of the poor to be covered under the scheme.

The second phase of the State
Government's Rs 950-crore
health insurance scheme for
the poor - Rajiv Arogya Sri -
will be launched by the UPA
Chairperson, Ms Sonia Gandhi,
at Nellore on Thursday.
With this, over 90 per cent
of the poor in the State, holding
white ration cards, will
have access to free medical
treatment for 887 identified
diseases in all the districts of
the State, Mr Mohammed Ali
Shabbir, Minister for Power,
told newspersons after a
meeting of the State Cabinet
here on Wednesday.
The eligible families can
avail themselves of free treatment
for various diseases at
320 identified private and corporate
hospitals, along with
Government hospitals.
Out of Rs 950 crore needed
for implementing the scheme,
Rs 450 crore was provided in
the 2008-09 Budget and the
State Cabinet approved the remaining
amount, he added.
The Cabinet also approved
the launch of `104 Service'
across the State to provide
medical advice to the patients
over a toll-free telephone
number. The scheme would be
implemented throughout the
State from September. The
Cabinet also ratified a decision
to fill up 37 vacant posts in the
State Human Rights Commission
by sanctioning Rs 61.76
lakh per annum. A financial assistance
of Rs 6.35 crore to 21
sugar factories for crushing
6.35 lakh tonnes of sugarcane,
was also sanctioned, he added.
