Eco-friendly launch: Mr Vivek Nayer (right), Vice-President, Marketing, Auto Sector, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, andMr Arun Malhotra, Senior Vice-President, Sales, at the launch of Bolero CNG in the Capital on Thursday. - Ramesh Sharma Our Bureau New Delhi, July 17 Buoyed by the sales of its three-wheeler CNG cargo vehicles, Mahindra & Mahindra on Thursday launched another alternative fuel-based vehicle in the category. It also plans to extend the range of CNG variants on its passenger vehicles such as Scorpio, and also introduce electric versions of its products. M&M has launched CNG pick-up cargo variant of its utility vehicle Bolero. Priced at Rs 5.42 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Bolero Pik-Up would have the pay-load capacity of 1-1.5 tonne. “Availability of CNG is a big issue. There is a big market for such vehicles. However, the Government on its part has to roll out more CNG stations in the existing cities as well as set up the network in the new cities,” said Mr Vivek Nayer, Vice-President, Marketing, Automotive Sector, Mahindra, at the launch. “In Pakistan, about 80 per cent of passenger vehicles run on CNG and this can happen in India also,” he said. The company stated the operating cost of the vehicle would be 40 per cent lower compared with a diesel vehicle and could run almost up to 300 km without a refill. Currently, Mahindra has a CNG cargo on its three-wheelers — Alfa in the small cargo category, and Champion in the larger segment. Mr Nayer said that it had cornered 40 per cent market share with its Alpha CNG. He, however, declined to give any time frame for the launch of other alternative fuel-based vehicles, stating that it was waiting for conducive infrastructure to be set up for such vehicles.
