Research & Development Glenmark molecule phase I trials Mumbai, July 17 Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd’s prospective pain-related molecule, GRC 10693, is set to enter its first phase of human trials. The molecule has been filed for Phase I approval with European regulatory authorities, a note from the company said. Further, it added that Glenmark expects to complete Phase I trials for GRC 10693 and initiate Phase II trials before the end of fiscal 2009. Phase I trials involve the first exposure of the prospective drug molecule to a small g roup of healthy human volunteers, to evaluate safety and the safe dosage range of the drug. In Phase II trials, the sample size gets bigger and the prospective drug is exposed to people with the illness that the drug candidate targets. This is Glenmark’s fifth molecule to enter clinics from its pipeline of 13 new chemical and biological entities, said Mr Glenn Saldanha, Managing Director and Chief Executive, in a statement from the company. The company’s prospective drug candidate targets neuropathic pain, osteoarthritis and other inflammatory pain.
