Mr Singh identified hydropower, tourism, education and health services as possible areas of co-operation between India and Nepal. “We will focus on those areas where we have a competitive advantage over others,” he said, speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of a meeting organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce here on Thursday. Nepal, according to Mr Man Singh, was addressing issues of economic development. The Government should play a regulatory role in the economic development of the nation, he pointed out, while the private sector should help propel the growth. “In my interaction with various political parties in Nepal, I have realised that there is a general consensus about allowing the private sector to play an important role in the development of the economy,” he said. Mr Singh was in favour of the continuance of the 1996 trade treaty between India and Nepal. “It is one of the best treaties between the two nations and should be allowed to continue in its present form,” he said.
