Economy States - Karnataka Call to improve efficiency of Govt spending Our Bureau Bangalore, July 18 Mr Rajeeev Chandrasekhar, President of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), has asked the Karnataka Government to take initiatives to improve efficiency and effectiveness of Government spending. Stating that growth in Karnataka had remained stagnant over the last four to five years, Mr Chandrasekhar said the State should ensure uninterrupted economic growth at 9 per cent with inclusiveness of the stakeholders as the basis of the strategies. 5-point agendaAddressing the FICCI National Executive Meeting held here on Friday, Mr Chandrasekhar, reiterated the agenda prepared by FICCI for the State’s sustainable growth — a five-point agenda prepared by FICCI to make the Karnataka a fully developed State by 2015-20. The agenda proposed stressed on Karnataka diversifying and broad basing the economy and focus on other areas to develop/create the catalysts for investments in these new areas; reviving the agricultural economy, improving economic governance and efficiency of Government spending in targeting the rural and the urban poor and revamping institutions that deal with Government delivery of services, among other things. It also looks at developing Bengaluru and six other cities into modern cities with totally new governance models that will create institutional space for its citizens.
