Maharashtra inquiry into Subhiksha stores

Our Bureau

Chennai, July 26 The Maharashtra Government will conduct an inquiry within ten days into Subhiksha’s retail stores following complaints of violation of hygiene norms at the godowns, sources in the Government have told Business Line.

The issue was raised in the state Legislative Council on Saturday by the leader of the opposition, Mr Pandurang Phundkar, demanding action against Subhiksha for not maintaining hygiene in packaged foods. The Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies and Drug Administration, Mr Baba Siddiqui, told Business Line that there was no ban on Subhiksha stores.

An inquiry is already pending with the FDA Commissioner which would be completed in 10 days time, he said.

Reacting to the development, Mr Mohit Khattar, President-Marketing, Subhiksha, said: “No notice of suspension or cancellation has been served against any Subhiksha outlet and all media reports in this regard are completely inaccurate.”
