Priyanka Vyas New Delhi, July 27 Suzuki Motorcycles India is looking to double capacity in two years even as it plans a series of product launches. Suzuki, the recent entrant in the domestic motorcycle market would launch at least four bikes — out of which three would be introduced this year and one next year. “In the next two years, we would like to have products that represent 75 per cent of the two-wheeler market. Our dealer network would also touch 500. Only then we would be a force to reckon with,” said Mr Atul Gupta, Vice-President (Sales and Marketing), outlining the company’s future strategy. The company would scale up capacity to 4 lakh units from the current 2 lakh units annually, estimating that it would be able to utilise full capacity. Suzuki is bringing the 1,000 cc sports bike Hayabusa and two more in the premium segment. He declined to comment on any further specification. The company currently sells two 125cc bikes ‘Zeus’ and ‘Heat’ and a scooter ‘Access’ in the same segment. Scooter marketThe company said that it would not launch any new scooter models as it is finding it difficult to meet demand for its existing scooters. “The market for our product is as much as 24,000 units a month. We have ramped up the capacity for scooters to 8,000 units from July onwards. By April we should be able to produce around 16,000 units monthly,” Mr Gupta said. Suzuki Access, which was launched last year in September, competes with Honda Activa and TVS. The Japanese auto maker, which accounts for close to half the domestic car market, is trailing behind in the motorcycles segment. However, the company expects that by 2010-11 it would increase its two-wheeler market share. “From 2010-11 onwards, there would be a faster introduction of models and higher volumes,” said Mr Gupta.
