Altair Engg to partner Indian cos for intellectual property

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, July 28 Altair Engineering India is set to partner Indian companies in their quest to create intellectual property with its design, validation and simulation tools with a focus on high performance computers and supercomputing environment.

The company, which has a development centre in Bangalore, has secured more than five patents which have significant contribution from its India R&D labs.

The Managing Director of Altair Engineering, Mr Pavan Kumar, said the company is engaged with several large agencies such as ONGC, Incois, C-Dac, and animation companies such as Crest Communication where high performance computers are required to simulate large scale engineering and design work.

After signing a memorandum of understanding with the University of Hyderabad here, Mr Kumar said the company is evaluating the possibility of setting up a second centre, possibly in Hyderabad, at the proposed Innovation Park.

The MoU with the University of Hyderabad is aimed at popularising research work in high performance computers and also grooming engineers in this area. The demand for such professionals is set to increase. This pact will also lead to higher education courses, Mr Kumar said.

Referring to the ongoing engagements, just like the supply of electricity to homes, the supercomputers in grids have the capability to offer computing power on demand. One of the objectives of research in India is to explore if this is possible, he said.

“Apart from supply of computing power on demand, we are also engaged in research in areas to create necessary safeguards to the data stored in these large systems. This could be in the form of providing smart card access or finger print recognition,” he said.
