Horticulture/Fruits & Vegetables Industry & Economy - Breweries Government - Policy Govt sets up National Wine Board Our Bureau Pune, Aug 1 To give a fillip to the wine industry in India, the Union government has set up a National Wine Board. An ad hoc committee has been formed to govern the working of the Board, with Indage’s Chairman, Mr S. Chougule, as Chairman. The members include Mr Rajiv Samant, Chairman of Sula Wines; Mr Khandagale of Vinchura Wines; Mr Kapil Grover of Grover Vineyards, Mr K.D. Unavane, representative of Sangli Valley Grape Growers’ Association; Mr K. Rajeshwar Rao, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries; Mr Krishna, Executive Director of Karnataka Wine Board; and Mr Pradeep Bawadekar, Managing Director, MITCON. ConsumptionAt a meeting to constitute the NWB, Mr Rahul Sarin, Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India, said that though the wine industry was growing at a rate of 25 to 30 per cent, per capita consumption in India was very low compared with other Asian and European nations.
