Meet discusses future of news

New Delhi, Aug. 6

The future of news was discussed at a recent conference held in the Capital, during which more news and news channels were predicted to come up in the future. Along with leading personalities of media houses were Mr Ajit Balakrishnan, Founder and Chairman, Rediff.com; Ms Punitha Arumugam, CEO, Madison India; Mr Ravi Kiran, CEO, Starcom, and Mr Santosh Desai, MD and CEO, Future Brands, who discussed the business of news. “The consensus of the speakers seems to be that we will be flooded with even more news brands in all media. We haven’t seen anything. There will be need for many different types of news and many different brands will be born to service those needs,” said Mr Sreekant Khandekar, Director, afaqs!, the media dedicated portal, which organised the event. Among the topics covered were the abundance of news, localisation of content and revenue streams beyond advertising.
