Seminar on weights and measures tomorrow

Coimbatore, Aug. 11 A seminar on Weights and Measures Act and Packaged Commodities Rules is being organised in Coimbatore to educate the trade and industry about the latest guidelines issued by the Government.

The meet, to be held on August 13, will be jointly organised by the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (Codissia), the Southern India Engineering Manufacturers’ Association, Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Coimbatore, the South India Hosiery Manufacturers’ Association, Tirupur and Tamil Nadu Weights & Measurers Manufacturers, Dealers and Repairers Association, Madurai.

Common standard

Mr K. Ilango, President, Codissia, in a release, said the Act aimed at establishing a common standard for the whole country and to safeguard the interests of the consumers.

The manufacturers, dealers and repairers of weights and weighing instruments faced numerous problems relating to the stamping of the weighing instruments, maintenance of registers and so on.

Problems to sectors

The engineering industries in Coimbatore district, pump industries and the hosiery manufacturers in Tirupur had to face problems in the course of their businesses under Packaged Commodities Rules.

Latest guidelines

The seminar will help update the knowledge about the latest guidelines on this subject. It will be presided over by Mr R. Mathurbootham, Director (Legal Metrology), Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
