Kolkata, Aug. 11 The All India State Bank Officer’s Federation has announced a nationwide strike on August 18 to oppose the merger of State Bank of Saurashtra with State Bank of India.

More than 80,000 members working in over 15,000 branches will observe the strike, said a press release from the Federation.

The associate banks were established with a specific objective of providing credit facilities to the interior parts of princely states and the merger is bound to affect the existing branch network in rural areas, the release said.
