Production hit at ISW plant

Pune, Aug 13

Production at the Khopoli plant of India Steel Works Ltd has been hit following torrential rain in the Lonavala region last Sunday. The company has informed the Bombay Stock Exchange that following incessant rains in Lonavala and Khandala regions and torrential rainstorms in Khopoli area, its steel making and rolling facilities at Khopoli were flooded. All the low-lying areas and underground equipment were submerged in water until the water was pumped out. By the end of the day, the factory shed fell off thereby heavily damaging all steel-making equipment. There are no major human casualties. The statement says that plant is adequately insured against all natural calamities, however, production will suffer. "Initial estimates and survey indicate that the rolling mills could be commissioned shortly but that it could take anywhere between 2 and 3 months for the steel making facilities to be fully operational after reinstatement," it added. - Our Bureau
