Software Hexaware closing Gurgaon centre The 130 employees have been encouraged to move to other centres.
Adith Charlie Mumbai, Aug. 13 Mid-tier IT company Hexaware Technologies is in the process of shutting down its Gurgaon centre where about 130 employees currently work. Due to escalating real estate prices in the Delhi NCR region, the company has decided to merge the Gurgaon centre with its other centres in Mumbai, Chennai and Pune, Mr Deependra Chumble, Chief People Officer, Hexaware Technologies Ltd, told Business Line. High land costThe city based company had set up its Gurgaon centre in April 2007. At that point, the company had said this centre would grow up to 1,000 employees in two years. “When this centre was set up, our intention was to rapidly scale it up. However in spite of several attempts, we were unable to find any affordable commercial land in the NCR region at Gurgaon,” said Mr Chumble. Hexaware currently has about six development centres, four of which are based in India. No client lossIs this shifting of operations because of slowdown from clients or due to loss of key customer accounts? Mr Chumble disagrees. “Hexaware has not lost any of its clients, leave alone any of our top 10 clients,” he said. A spokesperson for Hexaware said that all 130 employees in Gurgaon have been encouraged to move to other centres in Mumbai, Chennai and Pune. However, since the company has just started this process, it remains unclear as to how many employees would take up Hexaware’s offer. However, HR experts feel that the general tendency among employees in situations like these is to stay in the same city and look for a new job. “Employees who have less than two years experience and trainees might look at relocating. However, those who have more experience will use this as an opportunity to switch jobs,” the HR head of a large IT company, said on the condition of anonymity. Several Hexaware employees echoed similar sentiments. Nagpur SEZHexaware has commenced construction work on its Nagpur SEZ land; the first phase of the campus with a capacity of 1,200 people is expected to be available for occupation by this year-end.
