Tea Prices firm up at Kochi tea auction Our Bureau Kochi Aug 15 Prices jumped at the Kochi tea auction while interstate buyers and exporters remained active in the market. Indicating firm price trends in the weeks ahead, several dust tea lots were withdrawn from the market as the bids fell short of the seller’s expectations. There were 9.66 lakh kg of dust tea on offer and prices of CTC finer and grainier grades were up by Rs 4-6. Bolder grades were dearer by Re 1-Rs 2, while orthodox dust grades firmed up Rs 2-3. Best CTC grades quoted between Rs 88 and Rs 91, medium CTC was at Rs 82-85 and below medium ranged at Rs 74-79. High grown BOPD quoted Rs 115-117, medium BOPD was at Rs 62-64 and secondaries ranged at Rs 64. Leaf SaleThere were 3.44 lakh kg of leaf tea on offer where high grown whole leaf and flowery types were higher by Rs 5-7 while their corresponding broken varieties were fully firm to dearer by Re 1-Rs 2. Fannings were dearer by Rs 3-5. Medium whole leaf and flowery grades were up Rs 7-10 while broken and fannings were dearer by Rs 5-7. Best Nilgiri varieties quoted Rs 100-126, medium orthodox ranged at Rs 85-100 and plain orthodox fetched Rs 70-80. Best CTC leaf was at Rs 75-82 while medium CTC quoted at Rs 68-76.
