Tourism Logistics - Railways States - Kerala Rlys plans heritage hotel in Kochi Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 15 The Railways has decided to set up a heritage hotel at the old Cochin Harbour Terminus station on Wellingdon Island. The Railways Divisional Manager, Mr Titus P. Koshy, said during the Independence Day function here on Friday that the proposed restaurant would have a ‘rail ambience’. Tenders would be floated soon to award the contract for running the restaurant, and those bagging the contract would be required to maintain the station premises as well, he added. He said that the restaurant would be different from the traditional vegetarian/non-vegetarian refreshment rooms now functioning in the station. Mr Koshy said that the Thiruvananthapuram Division recorded the highest ever earnings of Rs 611 crore in 2007-08, as against the target of Rs 505 crore set by the Railway Board. It was the only division in the Southern Railway to exceed the target set by the board. From April to July in the current year, the division’s earnings were at Rs 236.17 crore as against a target of Rs 224.27 crore. Mr Koshy said plans had been drawn up to modernise the retiring rooms at all the railway stations. More Stories on : Tourism | Railways | Hotels | Kerala
