Sugar HC ruling on sugar mills case likely today Our Bureau Chennai, Aug. 17 The Allahabad High Court on Monday is likely to deliver its judgment on a petition filed by the Uttar Pradesh Government seeking dismissal of a petition filed by Bajaj Hindusthan Ltd and Basi Sugar Mills challenging the State Advised Price (SAP) for sugarcane. The Uttar Pradesh Government had filed the petition after the Lucknow bench of the high court on July 7 upheld the SAP fixed by the State in October last, dismissing all petitions filed by the sugar mills and their associations. The special leave petitions filed against the bench’s verdict are also likely to be heard on Monday by the Supreme Court. The Allahabad High Court was to deliver the judgement on August 14 but since one of the members of the two-judge bench was not available, the senior judge, Mr Justice A. Kumar, adjourned delivering the judgement till Monday. The Uttar Pradesh Government had fixed Rs 125 a quintal as SAP for common variety sugarcane and Rs 130 for early variety canes for the 2007-08 season ending October.
