BHPV to be made a centre for industrial boiler manufacture

Visakhapatnam, Aug. 22

Bharat Heavy Plate and Vessels Ltd (BHPV), merged into BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd) and made a subsidiary earlier this year, will be made into a major unit for manufacture of industrial boilers and the parent company will extend the required assistance for the purpose, according to Mr B.P. Rao, Director, BHEL.

He flagged off the first consignment of boiler components (100 tonnes) manufactured at BHPV here on Friday. He told reporters that BHEL had supplied the required raw material worth Rs 100 crore to BHPV and after value addition the consignment was being sent to Tiruchi.

He said, “We are trying to inspire confidence among customers that BHPV can deliver the goods and there will be no delays in delivery. We are trying to clear backlog of orders worth Rs 160 crore before the end of the financial year and get new orders.”

He said BHPV was suited for industrial boiler manufacture but that the skills available would have to be upgraded and the machinery modernised. “We want to spend Rs 230 crore for the purpose in phases, depending on the orders we get. We are sure customers in different sectors will patronise BHPV again with our support,” Mr Rao said.

He said BHEL wanted to develop BHPV in a manner that it could get orders and execute them on its own, “but it will take sometime”.

On the question of wage revision pending for more than a decade, he said the BHPV board had not yet been reconstituted after the merger. “The Union Government has not yet reconstituted the board. Only the new board can take up wage revision and other issues,” he added.
