Human Resources Labour Ministry says no notice was sent to Huawei Our Bureau New Delhi, Aug. 26 The Ministry of Labour and Employment on Tuesday clarified that it has not issued any notice to Huawei on the alleged violations of various labour and employment regulations of the country. The letter, which had raised issues related to Huawei’s employees, has turned out to be a forged one. The company had received this note on Monday on the Ministry’s letterhead. The forged letter also had the signature of Inspector- Fraud Investigation, Special Investigation Cell. The contents of the letter were widely reported by various media including Business Line. Reacting to the reports the Ministry of Labour and Employment said, “Attention of the Government has been invited to a report published in a section of the Press regarding a purported notice given by the Ministry of Labour and Employment to a firm, namely, Huawei on the alleged “violations of various labour and employment regulations of the country. In this regard, it is stated that no such notice has been issued by the Ministry of Labour and Employment.” Government sources said that an investigation may be initiated to find out the source of the forged letter. When contacted, a Huawei spokesperson said, “Huawei strictly complies with Indian laws and regulations. We have been contributing to the growth of the Indian telecom sector and will continue to do so. We reassure that we will continue our normal functioning and stay committed to the Indian market for the long term.” On Monday, the Huawei spokesperson had confirmed that the letter had been received at the company’s office. Currently, Huawei Telecommunications India employs about 1100 employees and more than 99 per cent of these are Indian engineers and marketing professionals. Apart from the above, currently it has around 200 expatriate staff (from China) in India who are holding business visas and are here for a short period to impart training to Indian employees, participate in contract discussions with Indian operators and to interface with key customers on solving specific customer problems and issues.
