Tobacco Karnataka tobacco sales from Sept 10 Our Bureau Guntur, Sept 5 Tobacco auctions in Karnataka are scheduled to begin from September 10 and the farmers in that State are harbouring hopes of securing high prices, going by the experience in AP auctions earlier this year. Farmers in AP got bumper prices this year, with the maximum price crossing Rs 140 a kg for a brief period on some of the auction floors. The average price breached $2 a kg mark. Crop sizeAccording to trade sources, the crop in Karnataka this year may be in the region of 100 million kg, of which two or three million kg may be damaged. At least, 90 million kg of crop will be of good quality and going by the current trend the farmers in the State should get a good price. The Tobacco Board is also planning to introduce e-auction on an experimental basis on Hunsur auction floor in Karnataka, as it did towards the end of the season in Andhra Pradesh at Jangareddigudem in West Godavari. Depending on the results, e-auctions will be introduced on all the floors in AP and Karnataka. More Stories on : Tobacco
