Mumbai, Sept. 5 Cement production at the Aditya Birla Group companies — Grasim Industries and UltraTech Cement — was down 8.87 per cent at 2.12 million tonnes (mt) in August.

Dispatches dipped 5.39 per cent to 2.19 mt compared with the same period last year.

However, between April and August, the output was up 1.11 per cent at 12.62 mt against 12.48 mt in the same period last year while dispatches grew 1.51 per cent at 12.60 mt (12.41 mt).

ACC, has reported 5 per cent fall in production at 1.52 mt in August against 1.60 mt in the same period last year.

Dispatches dropped 1.91 per cent at 1.54 mt (1.57 mt).

Between January and August, output was up 2.90 per cent at 13.83 mt (13.44 mt), while dispatches rose 3.28 per cent to 13.86 mt (13.42 mt).

“Production in Aditya Birla Group companies and ACC was lower as some of the units were shut for annual maintenance. Cement companies usually undertake repair works in July and August as there is a marked slowdown in demand in these months,” said an analyst.
