Hotel tariffs up 8-15 %

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Sept. 11 Indian hotel industry has increased its tariffs by 8-15 per cent from September 1. However, increase in luxury and premium category rooms for some companies has been minimal.

This increase is part of the annual review that the sector undertakes as it moves from off-season to peak season. The peak season starts from October in India. A similar review is taken in the overseas markets in January every year.

Mr Sanjoy Pasricha, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts, said, “This increase is meant to cover the investments that the companies make to improve their products and provide better experience to guests. It also covers them on account of inflation. As an industry we review our rates every year and market dynamics are also taken into account for this purpose.”

Taj group of hotels has increased its room tariffs by 8-10 per cent across all its brands and properties from September 1, said Mr Raymond Bickson, Managing Director, Indian Hotels Company, operators of Taj hotels.

However, a spokesperson for the Oberoi group said that while the increase in the base category of rooms in Oberoi’s city hotels has been around 15 per cent, the increase in presidential suites and premium category rooms for the same has been about 2-6 per cent. Oberoi’s leisure hotels will also witness an increment of 3-6 per cent. This includes its luxury properties such as Amarvilas in Agra, Rajvilas in Jaipur and Udaivilas in Udaipur .

Leela has not increased its tariffs as yet and they would come for a review only in October, said Mr Pasricha.
