Scorpio Automatic drives into Pune

Pune, Sept. 23 Mahindra and Mahindra on Monday launched the Scorpio Automatic, which has a fully automatic six-speed gear box and a 2.2 litre mHawk engine, in Pune.

Talking to presspersons at the launch, Mr Vivek Nayer, Senior-Vice President, Marketing, said the Scorpio Automatic would be available in the VLS and VLX variants. The VLX would be priced at Rs 10.75 lakh (ex-showroom) and the VLS at Rs 10.21 lakh (ex-showroom) in Pune. The VLX variant would have additional features including ABS, rain and light sensors, Intellipark, tyretronics, cruise control and audio control on steering wheel. Both variants incorporate a vehicle security and voice assist system, audio system with a CD/MP3 player, pen drive and SD card.

Mr Vivek said the company has partnered with Australian company DriveTrain System International for the the automatic transmission while most of its other components have been developed in-house at the Nasik plant.

The company would target three segments, women, the NRI, and people who commute a long distance to work. Specific direct campaigns were being organised to target these segments, he said, but would not disclose the sales target.
