Bangalore, Sept. 23 Global architecture and design firm Gensler, based in San Francisco in the US, and Space Matrix, Singapore-based architecture and interior design firm, have launched Studio i, an architectural and interior design KPO, in Bangalore. Studio i, with its team of skilled architectural, interiors and CAD professionals, will be an extension of Gensler’s worldwide design studio, providing design and documentation support for high-end, large-scale projects handled by Gensler’s worldwide offices.

“We see India as a tremendously important talent pool and market opportunity for us. India is an exciting market for us in the future. Studio i is a design process insourcing project, providing design support for our worldwide projects,” said Mr David Gensler, Executive Director, Gensler. It would be a 50:50 joint venture, said Mr Anurag Srivatsava, CEO, Space Matrix. He did not divulge other financial aspects, however.

Studio i will initially have a team of 20, and there are plans to have 200 employees in the next two-three years. It has completed 70 projects in one year, said Ms Shallu Singh, Head of Operations, Studio i.

Gensler currently has 32 offices in six countries, with 3,200 employees, 2,000 active clients in 2008, and 5,000-plus projects completed every year. Its revenues were $683 million last year, with $725-750 million in revenues expected this year, said Mr Gensler. Space Matrix’s revenues were $50 million last year, with expectations of $75 million this year.

About 65 per cent of the company’s revenues would be from India projects, said Mr Srivatsava. According to him, about 100 projects are located in India, important ones being the mixed-use development that Bajaj Hindustan is developing in Hyderabad.
