‘IT industry needs to add value’

Madurai, Sept. 26

The future of the information technology industry will increasingly depend on its strength to add value to its services, according to Mr Venkatesan Seshadri, Senior Vice-President, Birlasoft (India) Ltd. The sector has the resilience to survive from the crisis currently witnessed in the US. The exports with reference to IT services, BPO services, engineering services and software products are on the rise. Indian solutions have come to be increasingly accepted across the m arket. The domestic market is also strong and growing at 26 per cent in rupee terms. With the emerging opportunities in other countries, there is no cause for panic on the ground. However, with other countries fast catching up in competition, India will not be a cheap option anymore. It needs to add value to its services through knowledge contribution to maintain the success story, he said.
