Venture Infotek getting to be e-infra provider

L.N. Revathy

Coimbatore, Sept. 26 Venture Infotek Global Pvt Ltd is in a transition mode from a transaction processing and knowledge management company to be a provider of ‘e-infrastructure’.

The company, a provider of integrated end-to-end card payment processing solutions for both issuing and acquiring banks, has set up a countrywide infrastructure for electronic payment processing with its hub in Mumbai and a disaster recovery and business continuity centre in Bangalore.

Recalling the need for setting up a disaster recovery site in Bangalore, its Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Piyush Khaitan said “On July 25, 2005, when Mumbai was flooded due to heavy rains, we were forced to shut down operations for about 12 hours, because the entire area was water logged. Imagine transaction processing works coming to an abrupt halt. One would not be able to swipe his/her credit card to book tickets online or make purchases in a mall (using credit/debit card) and so on, swipe the card at an ATM to draw cash etc, causing a near panic situation. It was the first time in our history that such an eventuality arose.”

“We invested Rs 12 crore towards setting up a disaster recovery site at Bangalore to ensure business continuity. We chose Bangalore because it is in a different seismic zone,” he explained.

Apart from this investment, the company expends Rs 4 crore annually for conducting a drill twice every year. “We do the drill in August and March,” he said.
