Kitco to assess skill development scheme

The Union Government has appointed Kitco Ltd as the assessing body for the Skill Development Initiative Scheme (SDI) launched by the Labour Ministry.

Objectives of the schemes are to provide vocational training to school leavers, existing workers, ITI graduates etc to improve their employability by optimally utilising the infrastructure available in Government, private institutions and the industry. Existing skills of the persons can also be tested and certified under the scheme.

The other objectives include building capacity in the area of development of competency standards, course curricula, learning material and assessment standards. The essence of the scheme is to the certification that will be nationally and internationally recognised.

Speaking at the 36th AGM of the company, the Chairman, Mr V. Janakiraman, announced that Kitco had crossed a turnover of Rs 110 million, registering a growth of 39 per cent from that of the previous year. The net profit earned was Rs18 million showing a growth of 118 per cent from that of the previous year.

The company declared a dividend of 15 per cent for the current financial year. It is the 11th consecutive year, the company is declaring the dividend.

Apart from executing the airport assignment from Saudi Arabia, KITCO could bag another assignment from Oman for the development of Golf course for the petroleum development department of Oman, he said.

The Chairman said that KITCO continued to provide consultancy services in a variety of fields in the last fiscal. Some of the major clients for whom KITCO rendered services included Airports Authority of India, Tourism Department, Spices Board, Cochin International Airport, Cochin SEZ, KINFRA etc.
