Tirunelveli-Tenkasi gauge work soon

Madurai, Sept. 29

The Tirunelveli-Tenkasi broad gauge conversion work would be taken up soon, said the Union Minister of State for Railways, Mr R.Velu. Work on the 72-km stretch, to be taken up at a cost of Rs 146 crore, would be completed by the end of next year, he said, speaking at Tuticorin on Sunday. The 49-km Shenkottah- Punalur broad gauge conversion work, involving many tunnels and bridges, at a cost of Rs 357 crore, would also be taken up. A sum of Rs 3 crore has been earmarked for renovation of Tenkasi railway station. Security arrangements such as closed circuit television cameras and sniffer dogs have been strengthened at major railway stations, he added. - Our Correspondent
