Liver simulator under technological development

Help in finding solutions for liver diseases.

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Sept. 30 Here’s some interesting news for those who are interested in the study of liver, one of the important organs of the body. A Bangalore-based life sciences company has created a bio-chemical version of the organ on the computer.

“The simulator would help us understand better how the liver works and how it gets affected because of various drugs and alcohol. We are running the model on public data. We have already published the validation data,” Mr Vijay Chandru, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Strand Life Sciences, told Business Line.

Mr Chandru was here in connection with the launch of an updated GeneSpring solution for the study of genomics and diseases at the gene level.

The programme, funded by World Bank under its technological developmental programme SPREAD, is now in the marketing stage. The simulator would go a long way in finding solutions to the growing number of liver diseases across the globe. “We spoke to some pharmaceutical companies. Some of them were not convinced in the beginning. We are now working with seven global pharmaceutical majors to study the model with the data provided by them. We hope to see results by the end of the financial year,” he said.
