Performance States - Karnataka Dakshina Kannada banks cross Rs 17,800-cr mark Our Bureau Mangalore, Oct. 1 Banks in Dakshina Kannada have crossed a business level of Rs 17,805 crore as on June 2008. Speaking at the district consultative meeting for banking development of Dakshina Kannada here on Wednesday, Mr K.U. Shanbhag, General Manager of Syndicate Bank, said that 384 bank branches in the district achieved this level of business, which included a deposit of Rs 11,151 crore and advances of Rs 6,654 crore. The deposits have registered a growth of 17 per cent and advances 15 per cent on a year-on-year basis. The credit-deposit ratio of the district stood at 60 per cent as on June 2008. The meeting was informed that Dakshina Kannada district has been identified as minority concentration district by the Central Government. Banks in the district have lent to the tune of Rs 957 crore to minorities. This constitutes 14 per cent of the advance. Banks in the district have completed the process of waiving farm loans under the debt waiver scheme announced by the Government of India. The meeting was told that farmers whose loans are closed under the scheme can avail of fresh agriculture loans from the banks. More Stories on : Performance | Karnataka
