Pre ’96 pensioners

There are more anomalies in the pension computations than meets the eye. Obviously, most of the pensioners’ concerns are far too complicated for the ordinary mortals in the Ministry of Finance.

However, the most glaring omission is the missing of protection of pension related to posts from which the pensioners of pre-1996 vintage retired.

Now, three classes of pensioners come into existence.

The hapless ones who belong to the damnable decades (prior to 1996) , the intermediates ones who are providentially protected since they belong to 1996-2006 and, last, the electorally bankable ones of post-2006.

No doubt, pre-1996 pensioners are grateful to the authorities for their munificence, which is expressed in alleviating their sense of deprivation by an across-the-board lift of 40 per cent for them, plus a bonus of 20 per cent or more for those who are able to survive the decennial Pay Commissions by personally advancing to the age of 80 and beyond.
