Sikh fest may boost Nanded prospects

Alka Kshirsagar

Pune, Oct. 2

A week-long mega celebration of the Sikhs due to be held at Nanded later this month is being touted as the single event that will boost the economic climate of the region.

Not only will it put the town on the national religious tourism map, the infrastructure that has been put into place to take care of the expected influx of 25 lakh pilgrims during the period will give a fillip to industrial development in the vicinity.

Beginning October 29, Nanded’s Takhat Sachkhand Sri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib will host the ‘300 Saal Guru de Naal’ celebrations commemorating the tercentenary of two very important events in the history of Sikhism. The first, on October 30, is the consecration of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib as the ‘Eternal Guru’ (Gurta Gaddi), with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh tipped to attend.
