Paddy procurement centres

Nagappattinam, Oct. 3

Twenty-two direct procurement centres have been opened in the district for paddy procurement, the District Collector, Mr M. Jayaraman, said in a press release on Friday. This was in addition to the 99 centres established earlier. The collector said that, as decided on July 4 this year, Grade A paddy with 17 per cent moisture would be procured at Rs 1,050 a quintal, and ordinary paddy with up to 17 per cent moisture would be procured at Rs 1,000 a quintal. He said that the district farmers should use this opportunity to their advantage and said that the administration was ready to open more centres and procure paddy at the fixed rates if there was demand for it. –
