Cotton body seeks cut in support price

Mumbai, Nov. 13 A delegation of All Gujarat Ginners’ Association along with ginners from all other states and representatives of Cotton Association of India (CAI) and Confederation of Indian Textile Industries (CITI) have met the Agriculture Minister, Mr Sharad Pawar, to urge the Government to reduce the current minimum support price.

The survival of cotton and textile industry was under threat with the steep rise in MSP and sharp fall in demand due to economic slowdown, said CAI. The minister assured that the Government will sympathetically address the concerns of the cotton and textile industry and work out a suitable remedial solution for protecting the interests of all segment of cotton economy.

Assures support

Mr Shankersinh Vaghela, Minister for Textile, was also apprised by the All Gujarat Ginners’ Association of the difficulty faced by the textile industry. Mr Vaghela assured full support to ginning industry and cotton trade to get over the present dilemma.

Markets are reeling under serious recession and contraction of demand. All the pillars of cotton economy such as textile mills, ginners, traders and exporters are rattling under pressure for survival, CAI said.
