HK tourism board launches initiative for meetings, exhibitions

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Nov. 27 Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has announced the launch of its ‘Meetings and Exhibitions Hong Kong’ (MEHK) office in India at Mumbai.

MEHK was established recently by HKTB to raise the profile of the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector of Hong Kong and give a global push to attract MICE events to Hong Kong.

Tasked with providing one-stop professional support to MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Convention, Exhibition) organisers, the MEHK office was only the first in a series of measures by HKTB to ensure that Hong Kong stays ahead of competition in the global MICE sector, Mr David Leung, Regional Director (South & South East Asia), ,HKTB said here.

‘lot of Potential’

“India is a priority market for us. There is lot of potential for MICE here. In the short term, we are looking to focus on meetings and incentive opportunities from India. Conference and exhibitions are more for the medium and long term,” Mr Leung said.

Over the past six years, arrivals in Hong Kong from India have increased by more than 70 per cent.

India registered a positive growth of 8 per cent with 3,17,510 visitors in 2007.

The momentum keeps up in 2008 with cumulative arrivals for the first 9 months reaching 2,68,916 — a 13.5 per cent increase over the same period in 2007.
