Economy States - Kerala Kerala Govt takes steps to check price rise Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, June 18 The Kerala Government has initiated firm measures to check the recent rise in prices of essential items in the State. The Minister for Civil Supplies, Mr C. Divakaran, said here on Tuesday that the Government had seen to it that sufficient quantities of rice and other essential items had been stored at all the Maveli, Sabari and Labham stores across the State. He appealed to the public for maximum use of these outlets. Special squads under district collectors have commenced raids in all districts to unearth speculative and online trading, black markets, hoarding and artificial price rises as also to inspect the level of stocks and prices. The Minister called upon the traders to cooperate with these government efforts. Rice cheaperHe said that the price of rice was on the decline in the markets as a result of the Government’s intervention with the Railways authorities to ensure the smooth movement of rice stocks from Andhra Pradesh to the State. The price of rice has now come down by Rs 2 to 3 per kg in the markets. The Government has issued instructions for starting separate vegetable stalls at People’s Bazaars, apart from Horticulture Corporation’s outlets, to make available vegetables at reasonable prices. Arrangements have been completed to open people’s bazaars, on the lines of Onam bazaars, in Thrissur and Kozhikode districts under SupplyCo.
