NMPT lures traders from Hassan

Mangalore, June 22 New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), in association with the Hassan District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, conducted a trade meet in Hassan recently.

A press release issued by NMPT said here on Monday that the purpose of the meet was to interact with the importers and exporters of Karnataka, especially from the Hassan region.

Mr P. Tamilvanan, Chairman of NMPT, requested the trade and industry to make use of the New Mangalore Port, which is 165 km away from Hassan, for moving their cargo and making use of its advantageous position.

After the interaction, the representatives of exporters and buyers of gherkins from Hassan expressed their willingness to route their cargo through the port.

Container operators also assured full support by offering competitive ocean freight for exporters and importers of the region.

On the issues related to improvements in road and rail connectivity, Mr Tamilvanan said he would take up the matter with the departments concerned.

Mr Nagendra Gupta, President of Hassan District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Mr S. Gopalakrishna, Traffic Manager of NMPT, spoke on the occasion.
