Paradip port may buy reclaimers

Kolkata, June 23

The Paradip Port Trust (PPT) proposes to acquire two new reclaimers for its iron ore berth, and has accordingly placed an order worth Rs 30.6 crore with McNally Bharat Engineering Company Ltd. Earlier, the PPT had acquired two reclaimers from the same company. Currently, the iron ore berth has three reclaimers. One of them, installed in the 1970s, is very old. One of the new reclaimers is to replace the old one. With the installation of the two new reclaimers, likely within 24 months, the PPT's iron ore berth hopes to achieve a daily throughput of 30,000 tonnes on an average on a sustained basis, according to the port sources. - Our Bureau
