Good demand for orthodox leaf tea in N. India sale

Last week, CTC markets at North India generally followed quality, according to J. Thomas & Company Ltd, the tea auctioneers.

Assam teas showing seasonal improvement were firm to at times dearer while the remainder were irregularly lower.

Better Dooars were barely steady with the medium sorts irregularly lower and plainer sorts neglected.

There was good support from Tata Tea and western India buyers and fair enquiry from other internal and local dealers.

Exporters operated on larger brokens and fannings.

Orthodox whole leaf grades met with good demand and sold at around last levels.

Improved brokens met with competition following quality while lighter and stalkier brokens were irregular. Tippier fannings were dearer.

Selective Continental enquiries on tippier varieties. The CIS and West Asian exporters operated. Good support from local dealers.

Few selected improved liquoring Darjeeling teas appreciated with quality while the remainder was irregular around last.

Plainer whole leaf declined slightly.

There was some interest from traditional exporters with fair local interest.

Tata tea was active on plainer whole leaf.

CROP

Last week, most growing areas reported improved leaf intakes.

INTERNATIONAL

Offerings at Mombasa auctions met with good demand and sold at irregular rates with PF1s appreciating in value.

There was improved support from Pakistan Packers, Yemen, Sudan, and other West Asian countries as well as Afghanistan while Bazaar bought at lower levels.

Colombo auctions reported strong enquiry at dearer rates for all sorts.

Iran and CIS were active with some enquiry from Dubai. Japan and UK exporters operated.
