Events States - Andhra Pradesh A good initiative: M.S. Swaminathan Our Bureau Hyderabad, June 29 Dr M.S. Swaminathan, Chairman of National Commission on Farmers, has called for efforts to evolve effective monsoon management in the times of climate change. Preparing the farm sector for a good monsoon and a bad one is crucial, he said. “For this, we need to train at least two climate risk managers, including one woman manager, in each village,” he said. Addressing a conference on cooperative farming here on Monday, he said people together could face the climate change effects better. While welcoming the proposal for collective farming, he said one could learn lessons from the dairy and use them while taking up cooperative farming. Stating that resource allocation is crucial, he said proper decisions and investments would yield results. “Security of good land for farming and soil health are very important,” he said. “Agriculture is at a crossroads. How to take it further is important. We can neglect agriculture only at our peril,” Dr Swaminathan added. More Stories on : Events | Cultivation | Andhra Pradesh
