Mumbai, June 29 Jain Irrigation Systems has bagged Rs 158 crore order for the supply of mango pulp to Coca-Cola in India and abroad.

The current order is 85 per cent higher compared with the previous season, the company said in a press release on Monday.

The mango pulp will be produced in the current mango season but dispatched over next year. Mango remains the largest revenue earner for the product portfolio of Jain Irrigation.

The food division of the company is the largest processor of fruits and vegetables in India with a processing facility in the US.

The core strength of the division is the focus on quality that has been attested by certifications such as ISO 22000, GMA SAFE, BRC etc. Recently, the division received ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications for environment, health and safety.

Processed food in demand

Jains fruit processing plants are located at Jalgaon in Maharashtra and Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh. Processed fruits and vegetables are in great demand in India and overseas markets.

The processing division has registered compounded annual growth of 35 per cent over the last 5 years, the company said. Jain Irrigation processed 87,500 tonnes of fruits and 56,000 tonnes of onions last year.

The company has set a target to process a record 1.75 lakh tonnes of fruit and 85,000 tonnes of onions this year.

Increasing mango yield

The agro major has been working closely with farmers in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh to increase mango yields. They not only provide irrigation systems to small farmers but also offer support through its R&D farms located in Jalgaon, Chittoor and Udulmalpet in Tamil Nadu.

Jains have evolved an ultra high density planting for mango which will increase yields by more than double. The company has also started an initiative to buy mangoes directly from farmers and set up contract-farming in the growing regions, the company said.

The company’s shares on BSE were up two per cent at Rs 626 on Monday.
