Key to farming: Migrant labourers from Bihar transplanting paddy in a field near Sonepat in Haryana. A typical group of 10-12 labourers charges Rs 1,300-1,500 an acre and covers 3-4 acres a day. Haryana and Punjab farmers are dependent on these labourers for key farm activities such as planting and harvest.
