Madurai, June 29

A National Institute of Marine Biotechnology will be set up near Chennai, according to Mr K. Ganesan, Higher Education Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu. The Department of Biotechnology had sanctioned last year the setting up of the institute at an outlay of Rs 200 crore. A site between Kovalam and Kalpakkam on the East Coast Road is being assessed, and once the approval from the Department of Biotechnology is obtained, the work will be started. Mr Ganesan was in the cit y to attend a function in Madurai Kamaraj University.
