Higher tea volume on offer at Coonoor sales

The rising trend in the offer of teas in the Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions continues this week. For Sale No: 27 to be held on Thursday and Friday, a volume of 17.77 lakh kg is being offered. This is the highest volume on offer so far in 2009.

It exceeds last week’s hitherto highest volume by 55,000 kg. This week’s volume is as much as 3.96 lakh kg more than the offer this time last year.

Fresh arrivals

In the 17.77 lakh kg, fresh arrival is 14.41 lakh kg. As much as 3.36 lakh kg comprise unsold teas in previous sales.

Of the 17.77 lakh kg on offer, 11.80 lakh kg belong to the leaf grades and 5.97 lakh kg dust grades. As much as 16.77 lakh kg belong to CTC variety and only one lakh kg, orthodox variety.

The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both the leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 0.53 lakh kg belong to orthodox while 11.27 lakh kg, CTC.

Among the dusts, only 0.47 lakh kg belongs to orthodox while 5.50 lakh kg, CTC.
