Mr Suri said the mill’s pulp capacity was more than required, and in fact “we are selling pulp to several paper mills, including Coastal Paper Mill in East Godavari, which we acquired.” He said Coastal Paper was producing 67,000 tonnes a year. To an extent, in the near future, issues may be accentuated by additional capacities, the Director said. “A number of paper mills have come up, or are coming up, in recent times and these additional capacities may create a glut situation in the short term. But the long-term prospects for the industry are bright. In India, the per-capita paper consumption is only eight kg per person whereas the international average is in the range of 45-50 kg. Therefore, the future is bright,” he said.
