Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Data transfer
I need to transfer data (about 2 GB of Word and Excel data) from one computer to another computer within Delhi. I can do it either by using a Zip drive or a writable CD and CD writer. My fear is of virus. I know that virus spreads through floppies and through e-mails and the Internet. Would the above transfer using a zip drive or CD writer spread the virus from one machine to the other? Please clarify. Rakesh Gujral Your hard disk, floppy disk and CD are all equally prone to be affected by virus. The probability of floppy disks or CDs being infected is more simply because it is carried around and is being used in different systems, thus increasing its chances of getting infected. You can be safe if you just scan the files you are going to copy before copying it to the zip, or CD. To be doubly safe, you can re-scan it when copying it back into the system. Be sure to update your virus definition constantly as viruses keep popping up every day.
